In a live Protos Activate implementation we can identify four roles, each role is invoved with Protos Activate in a slightly different way. Of course the same person may have one or more role.
- The Modeller (process devloper) maps the Process Model in standard Protos until it is ready to be released. The modeller has a full Activate development environment on their computer which allows the flow and the corresponding screens to be tested. In the test environment the modeller can take the roles of the end user (process executor), applications manager and process manager. When the Process Model and the corresponding forms, letters and integrations are ready, the modeller releases the process on the Protos Activate production server. The Modeller needs no development or programming experience, everything is done in standard Protos.
- The Applications Manager takes care of the operational environment. By linking employee names to roles, the applications manager ensures that the right cases are delivered to the relevant people at the right time.
- The End User (process executor) is presented with work lists and picks up each case from a queue. In order to carry out the tasks, standard systems are often required in addition to Protos Activate, for example your normal line of business applications, document management, content management, CRM, ERP, the internet, Microsoft Office applications, etc.
- The Process Manager monitors the efficiency of the process based on the management information and takes care of any necessary changes in the process and work distribution.
This diagram shows how Protos Activate works:-

Apart from the Protos modelling environment, Protos Activate can run as a complete web-based application based on Java technology. You can also install the different components locally.
